Masters Scholarships / CHEVENING

chevening scholarship

Chevening Scholarships do not care about the applicant’s gender, religion, age (as there is no upper age limit) or any other factors. What matters is the applicant’s ability to submit a strong application that demonstrates that he is able to excel on an intensive Master’s course in the UK, and that he has a clear vision for his future, his field or his country.

Apply for CHEVENING Scholarship Programs

منحة applying for chevening scholarship

The CHEVENING Scholarship applicant will be required to choose three different Master’s programs. Three different programs can be chosen within the same college or three similar programs in three colleges at most.
-The applicant must choose the three programs carefully as he will not be able to change his preferences once the application is confirmed (except in exceptional cases). Each of the three preferences must be applied for separately directly through the university, with the emphasis that it is preferable for the applicant to apply early to the university to obtain unconditional acceptance.
-The scholarship administration advises applicants to choose three similar programs within three different universities to increase their chances of acceptance into one of the programs. It is not necessary for the program names to be exactly the same, but rather similar in content, and the applicant must also choose preferences that reflect his current and future career goals.

For programs to be accepted and eligible for acceptance into the scholarship, the following conditions must be met:
-It must be a full-time program.
-It must start in the autumn semester (usually September or October).
-Taught master’s (not research-focused MRes programs).
-Results in a master’s degree.
-Must be within the UK.

The program cannot be:
-Part-time.
-Distance learning.
-Less than (9 months).
-More than (12 months).
-(PhD) or (DPhil) program.
-Involves education outside the UK for a period of more than one month.

Please note that there is an MBA fee cap that applies to MBA programs which requires you to cover any additional cost over £18,000.

Work experience required for a CHEVENING scholarship

applying for chevening scholarship

The Chevening Scholarship applicant must ensure that he/she has the minimum work experience required to apply for the scholarship, as the applicant must have work experience for at least two years (2800 working hours) and this can include: (full-time employment, part-time, volunteer work, paid or unpaid internships, freelancing) in any field and in any country.
-Previous work experience can include the applicant’s experience before, during or after graduating from university (except for mandatory work required by the undergraduate or postgraduate degree).
-Work experience does not necessarily have to be over a continuous period, as the applicant can submit work experience for a maximum of (15) periods of time.
-The number of working hours will be calculated by multiplying the number of work weeks by the number of working hours in each week, a work week consists of 35-60 hours and a work year consists of 40-50 weeks, and accordingly any application exceeding the maximum working hours will be considered ineligible.
-The work experience provided does not necessarily have to be related to the field of study that is being applied for, noting that if the work experience differs from the field of study, the reasons for changing the career path must be explained, and therefore it is better here for the practical experience provided to be consistent with the required field of study. – The applicant is not required to submit any documents or papers proving the work experience.

CHEVENING Scholarship Online Application System

CHEVENING Scholarship Online Application System

All applications for the Chevening Scholarship must be submitted exclusively through the electronic application system, as this system will be used repeatedly during the various stages of the scholarship, whether to check the status of the application or to complete the remaining documents required by the scholarship. Here are some tips when using the electronic application system:
-It is preferable to use a desktop computer or laptop equipped with a Google Chrome browser.
-It is preferable to complete the application process in full-sized mode of the screen, which makes it easier to read and interact with the pages that appear on the screen.
-Do not use the “back” and “forward” buttons within the browser as they will direct you out of the application system and you will lose all unsaved work. Use the menus within the application form pages to navigate between pages.
-Remember your username and password.
-There is a minimum (100 words) and a maximum (500 words) for the number of words for answers within the application form, so you must ensure that you fully adhere to them or they will not be taken into account.
-There is no automatic saving within the system, make sure to save every step you take. The duration of the session within the system is (60) minutes, after which the system will be automatically exited and the applicant will lose any data that he has not saved. The data can also be filled in over several sessions and not necessarily in one session.
-Do not copy answers from any other source because the system uses tools to detect any plagiarism. You must ensure that the information you enter is original and your own work.
-Use English exclusively to complete the application within the system.
-Do not submit the application finally unless you are sure that it meets all the required conditions. Once the application is submitted, you cannot make any modifications to it except for contact information and documents required to be uploaded later. If the applicant wishes to withdraw the application, he can do so with an explanation of the reasons, noting that in this case he cannot submit a new application until the application is opened again next year.

Successful applicants will be notified via email of their eligibility to attend a Chevening interview, which will run from 26 February to 26 April. Successful applicants will also be informed of instructions on how to book an interview slot, with the order of interviews being determined by who books first. Once the applicant has confirmed their slot, they will receive an email with the interview date, which cannot be changed.
-Interviews will be conducted in the country of application, and in exceptional cases, Skype interviews may be conducted for applicants.
-Before the interviews, and by 22 February, applicants must have uploaded the following documents: (educational documents, two letters of recommendation, a brief summary in which the applicant explains more about themselves).
-Applicants must bring identification documents such as a passport and ID when attending the interview, and may be asked to bring additional documents (they will be notified via email).
-The interview will be conducted in English by representatives of the consulate, where many questions will be asked about the information provided by the applicant in the application, such as the applicant’s professional and educational aspirations and how the scholarship can help the applicant achieve these aspirations, in addition to asking questions related to the study programs chosen by the applicant.
– Applicants will be informed of the results of the interviews from the beginning to the middle of June, and here it should be noted that applicants should not wait for the results of the interviews to apply for the study programs, but it is preferable to apply for the study programs as early as possible, even before the results of the interviews appear, and in the event of obtaining any unconditional acceptance, it must be submitted to the electronic system as soon as possible.

Financial Benefits of the CHEVENING Scholarship

CHEVENING Scholarship Financial Benefits

Chevening Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship where the scholarship provides many financial benefits and facilities that are specified to the applicant in the final acceptance letter for the scholarship. The accepted applicant is often provided with a cash card by the consulate or the competent authority before arriving in the United Kingdom and opens a bank account through which the applicant will benefit from the rest of the benefits (any remaining amounts on the card are also transferred to the bank account in November).

The successful applicant will receive the following benefits:
-The cost of applying for an entry permit (visa) for the applicant only.
-Arrival allowance: The arrival allowance covers any expenses incurred when traveling to the United Kingdom. This allowance can be used to cover any excess baggage requirements as well as the cost of transportation from the airport to the university and police registration fees if required.
-Monthly stipend: The official scholarship website does not specify any specific amount for the stipend as it varies from one program to another and from one region to another, but the website indicated that the purpose of the stipend is to cover reasonable living costs in the United Kingdom while studying full-time and is calculated to cover basic expenses only. These expenses include accommodation, meals, personal expenses, telephone bill, daily travel and any training course that requires expenses. The stipend can also be used to cover the cost of prescriptions, dental treatment and opticians (this stipend is usually higher in London and the surrounding areas to cover the difference in high prices compared to other regions).
-Travel tickets.
-A contribution of up to £75 for a tuberculosis test.
-Full tuition fees, exams and labs (reminder that the maximum limit for MBA programs is 18,000 pounds, as the accepted student will pay any costs exceeding this amount).
-Short-term loans (in exceptional cases).
