Biography:
Takashi Osada is a consultant in industrial engineering and quality control, and director of the Productive Maintenance Technology Center in Nagoya, Japan. He provides management consulting specializing in industrial engineering, process control, quality, and factory management. Takashi Osada is considered the godfather of the 5S workplace organization concept. He developed the concept in the 1980s, and it first appeared in his book published in 1991. Researcher Hiroyuki Hirano continued to develop the concept in the 1990s. Takashi Osada pointed out that we have been practicing some of the 5S for a long time without realizing it. In fact, most of us have practiced some form of “classification” and “arrangement,” for example at home when we put things like dirty clothes baskets and wastebaskets in familiar places. If we look around the place, whether at home or at work, we can always find a place for improvement.
