Biography:
An American philosopher, in addition to his specialization in philosophy, he also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and pursued advanced studies in music. For many years, Schön worked with large consulting firms, where his ideas emerged that led to his first major works. His later work showed a lasting interest in the subtle processes by which technological and other change are absorbed (or not absorbed) by social systems. In 1970, he gave lectures for the BBC on how learning occurs within organizations and societies. Donald Schön became a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968 as a professor of urban studies and education, and remained there until his death. During these decades, his long collaboration with adult education and organizational behavior expert Chris Argyris led to fundamental insights into how organizations develop, adapt, learn, or fail at these vital tasks. Their collaboration led to two important books in the 1970s. Much of his work concerned the concept of learning systems. He and Chris Argyris argued that organizations and individuals must be flexible and must integrate lessons learned throughout their lives, which later evolved into what is known as In organizational learning, both Schön and Argyris developed the theory of single loop learning and double loop learning.
